FlyFish50 – Tuesday evenings in May 2026 at Loch Insch Fishery
Every year the Dee District Salmon Fishery Board want to encourage 50 new people to the wonderful sport of Fly-fishing, we welcome all age groups, children, young people and adults to our FlyFish50 programme.
All tackle and instruction is provided in a friendly and informal setting and you will learn a lot and gain the confidence over the 3 sessions to take up the sport as a regular hobby if you wish. Fishing will not only challenge you to master a new skill, but give you time in the outdoors that is so good for your mental health and relaxation.
If you have fished in the past and want to start again or brush up on skills then this would also be suitable for you.
Price of just £60 for a 3 lesson block in 2026 and 12 hours of tuiton and all kit.

Come & Try Day on the Dee – March 2026
On the river Dee we are very keen to encourage new anglers to fly-fishing, this can be done in a number of ways to suit your aspirations.
If you want to come and see what fly fishing for Atlantic salmon on the Dee is all about, then we have a come and try day, it is friendly and informal and you will get instruction from our team of volunteers and ghillies, all kit is provided for the day by Loop Tackle and the team at Twin Peakes and the location will be the Banchory beat.
Please note all fish are catch and release on the River Dee. Suitable for aged 16 and over. £60 per person all inclusive.
Our next date will be in March 2026 and we are just checking dates with colleagues on the river.

River Opening – Mon 2 February 2026
The official opening of the River Dee for the Salmon Fishing Season takes place on Monday 2nd Febraury 2026 at the Milton of Crathes and the Crathes Castle Beat, nr Banchory, Aberdeenshire.
This is an important day in our calendar for many who work on the river to get together with the angling community and look forward to the year ahead, with short speeches, a piper taking us on a walk to the river, a ceremonial first cast of the season, and a dram to toast the fishes.
